The caretakers examine all 300 residents every day; this is regular, and it typically returns routine results.

But, as it turns out, these ape occupants occasionally discover fresh ways to surprise these seasoned carers.

A caretaker discovered Bobo, a Western Lowland gorilla rescued in 1996, with an unexpected new buddy one day.

“During his morning inspections, our gorilla caretaker noticed Bobo carrying a newborn, wild jungle baby.”

“The bush baby exhibited no fear of Bobo, crawling around his body and jumping about in an open grassy area before returning to Bobo.”

This is especially rare given that Bobo is the dominant male in his group, having resisted efforts by other vicious gorillas to usurp his position.

And it turns out that this colossus has a soft side as well.

“Because bush babies are normally nocturnal, seeing one during the day is quite uncommon.”

“We’ve never seen a wild ape engage with a rescued primate at Mefou Sanctuary.”

Bobo’s group was likewise interested in what was going on.

“Bobo’s group mates were intrigued by the bush baby and thought he would share it with them, but Bobo kept the bush baby to himself.”

They spent two hours together until Bobo returned his new friend to the trees where the bush baby had vanished.

Ape Action Africa is Africa’s largest conservation effort of its sort, caring for around 300 primates.
