Geoffrey Hill, who became recognized for his work investigating unique bird colors.

Stated in 2005 and 2006 that he and a group of his students felt they had “very compelling evidence” that the ivory-billed woodpecker was still alive in Florida’s Choctawhatchee River basin.

Graeme and his Auburn students did obtain some photos and sound recordings of the bird.

The male has a brilliant red crest, while the female has a black crest.

The beautiful woodpecker was previously prevalent across the Southeast, including Alabama.
