One day, like any other, the Detroit Zoo’s chimp exhibit was surrounded by onlookers on all sides when a joyful pursuit between two chimps took an unintentional turn.

And one of the chimps slid into the muddy moat around the display.

Furthermore, chimps’ bodies, unlike humans’, are not meant to have the inherent buoyancy of water.

As a result, the unfortunate monkey drowned quite quickly. None of the zoo workers dared to approach him because they were afraid of the territorial chimps in the colony.

Nonetheless, such one man, called Rick Swope, couldn’t help but cry when he saw the chimp’s plight.

He instantly crossed the fence and dove into the moat. However, the murky water made it hard for him to find the monkey.

Moreover, the crowd had begun to applaud Rick by this point. They assisted him in getting to the chimp by guiding him through the water.

The chimp family was just appreciative and allowed him to return uninjured as he led the monkey back to safety.
