In fact, the contrasting shades of blue, gray and white on the azure-shouldered tanager really quite stunning to see.

So, they are native to Brazil, particularly in the Atlantic Forest of eastern Brazil, preferring the subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests in the area.

Unfortunately, continued urbanization along with industrialization has seen a decline in numbers.

However, the Sayaka Tanager tends to be more gray than blue, and their wings are not so bright.

Therefore, these wonderful tanagers as a whole are omnivores birds, eating whatever they can find, from fruit to seeds and nectar to flowers. Even eating insects when they are able to catch them.

Unfortunately, Azure-shouldered tanagers are now listed as “near threatened!”

Hopefully, something will be done to prevent further habitat loss, so these pretty birds will no longer be a rare sight.
