Soldier gives a hug to his K-9 partner the last time until he passes away

Kyle Smilth, a sergeant, found his coworker, Bodza, a German Shepherd when he was serving in the US Air Force. Since 2006, the shepherd dog saved many people’s lives by snuffling bombs. Smith started to work with the dog some years later.

Smith told that he was one of the greatest teachers in his life, as he taught him to be patient and humane.

Smith and Bodza did many missions together. When it was time for him to retire, he made up his mind to take him to his house. To his surprise he was much more devoted, especially at home.

They both were enjoying time until Smith found out in the summer of 2016 that the dog had a degenerative myelopathy. It is impossible to cure that disease as it influences on dog’s spinal cord.

He was not able to either stand or walk as his limbs were weakened.

The only thing that was left for Smith to do is to put him down. He took him to the vet clinic in Texas where he died peacefully in the arms of Smith.
