A sleeping position that made everyone giggle, but the reason for it is actually quite serious.

Even the adorable young owls appear to have been partying all night, yet due to their heavy heads, they actually sleep like that.

And it makes all the sense considering that all babies are born with much bigger heads comparing to their bodies.

Following the journalist Mark Reed’s now-viral photo, everyone on social media began to contribute photos of newborn owls sleeping in that position, confirming the notion.

Moreover, the National Audubon Society, a non-profit organization, has also validated the baby owls’ amusing napping schedule.

So, “their naps are short, and they do not want to be disturbed, even to be fed,” according to the article.

What’s fascinating is how they manage to hang on to the trees with their heavy heads down and not fall.

However, it appears that it is due to their hallux. “Until the bird bends its leg, the hallux will not open or let go.”
