Early this month, Matt was working on a construction job when an unexpected turn of events occurred.

He heard what sounded like a cat coming from an excavator on site at the end of the day.

The kitten was so little that he looked like a baby.

He meowed at the top of his lungs in an attempt to summon assistance.

Matt couldn’t reach in to get him, so he decided to disassemble plates from the excavator’s bottom to save him.

Therefore, Max, the tabby boy, was not the only kitten discovered that day, but he was the solitary survivor of his litter.

Matt hurried him to his sister, who began critical care on him.

The small, palm-sized cat weighed just 2.5 ounces (70 grams) when he arrived.

Approximately half his normal size, and his umbilical cord was still connected.

Baby Max made it through the first 24 hours in his new home with some food (kitten formula) in his stomach and a cozy bed to snuggle in.

He began to gain weight and insisted on cuddling with Amy after each meal.

He was able to latch better and consume more thanks to syringe feeding.

Max ate to his heart’s content and clung to his human mother for comfort.

He learned to groom his coat and toes on his own and even developed a healthy, chonky, adorable tummy.
