Life is anything but simple for a soldier stationed overseas.

These warriors must deal with continual stress, and having a buddy by their side may be quite beneficial during difficult times.

The link is significantly deeper when the partner is four-legged.

It occurred to Army expert Vance McFarland and his canine companion Ikar, a devoted Czech Shepherd who had been specially trained as a detection dog.

Vance and Ikar first met in 2012, while both were deployed to Afghanistan.

Even though their stay was brief, it was enough to cement their friendship for life.

The reunion of the two after three long years is confirmation of this.

After a few months in Afghanistan, the pair returned home in safety.

But soon after, Ikar was taken away from Vance and returned with another handler.Ikar was meant to become a support dog for a private corporation after his second mission.

But things didn’t go as planned, and the devoted pup wound up in a kennel for over two years.

Fortunately for him, Mission K9 Rescue and the US War Canines Association devised a method to reconnect army dogs with their mission companions at some time.

When they located Ikar, they concentrated on finding his handler, Vance.

It didn’t take long for the volunteers to track down Vance and inform him of their kind endeavor.

Of course, the soldier was overjoyed. However, he was concerned that his ex-companion might not recognize him after three years away.

“I hope he remembers who I am,” Vance added. But he was completely mistaken, as their reunion became such an emotional scene.
