For saving the baby bear from drowning one man leaps into the freezing river

When Eli Barkley from Broadway, West Virginia and his dad Darrin went on a fishing trip, they hoped for a big catch, but never thought it would be a helpless black bear cub.

The Barkleys were heading back to camp from the river when a forest ranger approached them.

He warned them about an orphan bear cub who might be in their vicinity.

A few moments after, Eli spotted what looked like a baby bear on Williams River. But he was in deep troubles.

So the father and son team notified the forest rangers, as well as Joel Rosenthal, chairman of Point of View Farm, located in Hillsboro.

Once they arrived at the bear, it appeared weary. He couldn’t barely keep his head above the water, and the powerful wind was carrying him away.

And that is when Eli decided to take action! This young guy was successful in pulling the bear from the water and transporting him to dry ground, and Rosenthal sedated him.

The young animal must’ve been all alone for weeks, considering the way it was gazing.

It’s unknown if his father abandoned the baby or whether he became lost.

Nevertheless, he’s protected now that Rosenthal is looking after him. He was even named just after William River.

The little creature is now secured thanks to these heroic fishermen.
