Dame, Dr. Daphne Sheldrick, a well-known wildlife campaigner, has dedicated her life to caring for orphaned young elephants left by heartless poachers who slaughter adult elephants for their tusks.

In 1977, Daphne changed her emphasis to orphaned elephants. It was tough for the baby elephants to live without their moms at first.

But, over time, Daphne’s painstaking research enabled her to design a unique feeding-milk mix that ensures elephants get the nourishment they need to develop normally.

Daphne acts as a mother figure to all the elephants she rears.

Elephants have a strong feeling of family, which is why when they encounter their adoptive mother, they race to hug her.

Later in life, Daphne became aware of the large number of rhinos being slaughtered for their horns.

As a result, she broadened her crusade to include rhinos. When the creatures reared by Daphne reach the appropriate age, they are returned to their original environment.

Unfortunately, the ivory tusk trade and other prohibited animal-based smuggling continue to grow due to their attractiveness on the black market, putting these creatures at risk.

Let us raise our voices and work together to put a stop to this heinous trade.
