They live in southwestern Africa’s arid, open land.

They like to dwell in broad-leaved woods, semidesert, and hilly environments up to 1,600 meters above sea level.

It is reliant on water sources and congregates near pools to drink.

Their food consists primarily of seeds and berries.

When there is enough of food, they may congregate in flocks of hundreds of birds.

They may be a problem in agricultural regions since they eat on crops like millet.

During the mating season, the females nearly totally construct the nests, which contain three to six eggs that are incubated for around 23 days.

The mother will care for the hatchlings until they depart the nest at around 6 weeks of age.

The dad then takes over feeding the small birds for the next two weeks or more, until they have fledged.

Because of its ubiquity in the pet industry and extensive natural population, the IUCN considers this bird to be of the least concern.
