The Brahmin myna, sometimes known as the brahminy starling (Sturnia pagodarum), is a bird of the starling family.

Because of his propensity of perching atop temple pagodas in southern India, this attractive bird was given the name “pagodarum.”

Adults have a long, loose crest on top of their heads, and their forehead and crown are a glossy black color. The nape is cinnamon-colored and has subtle shaft streaks.

They have brown gray upper parts, mantle, back, and rump. Except for the middle pair, their tails are gray brown with white tips.

The underparts and sides of the neck are cinnamon. Some pale shats have a streaking look on their upper breast region.

Females have a less pronounced crest than males, while youngsters are duller with a browner crest.

Dry open lowland regions, open deciduous woodland, scrub, and cultivated land are preferred habitats for these birds.

They are common near residential areas and in wet areas. The Brahmin Starling, like other starlings, is omnivorous, consuming both fruit and insects.

Brahmin starlings breed between April and August, when they build a nest in a hole in a tree, generally one made by a woodpecker.

Both sexes construct the nest out of dried grass, dead leaves, and paper, which is lined with finer, softer material.

Three to five eggs are deposited within and incubated for roughly 12 days, with both parents feeding the chicks after they hatch.

After eighteen to twenty-one days, they become fledged.
