The blue-crowned manakin (Lepidothrix coronata) is a bird species in the Pipridae family.

Males of this species weigh between 8.5 and 9.5 grams and have a dazzling blue crown with either black or green plumage on their bodies, with some subspecies wearing green.

Though the link between plumage color in subspecies is unknown.

Females are bigger on average, weighing 9.8 g, with a maximum weight of 11.5 g and the lowest weight of 8.5 g.

They are usually green. From Costa Rica through Peru, Bolivia, and northwestern Brazil, this species may be found.

The blue-crowned manakin is frequently found in the understory of tropical rainforests, however it will also visit mature second-growth woods.

They may be found from sea level to 1,400 m in elevation.

They are a frugivorous bird that feeds mostly on tiny fruits and berries.

Blue-crowned manakins breed between February and June.

Males congregate in groups and execute a rudimentary show to attract females, but they play no further role in the breeding process after mating.

The female constructs the nest, which is a small cup-shaped construction formed of fine fibers and coated with leaves and moss.

It is installed at the fork of a horizontal branch up to 2 meters above the ground.

The female lays two white eggs with reddish-brown markings, which she incubates for 18-19 days on her own.

After around 15 days, the chicks fledge. This species has a vast breeding range and is considered common.
