The garnet pitta (Erythropitta granatina) is a kind of bird that belongs to the Pittidae family.

These birds are a medium-sized, stocky bird, about 15-25 cm in length.

They include a very short tail, and are clothed in a mix of purplish-blue and garnet red, with glittering blue wing coverts and a vibrant red head.

Females are primarily brown with a red patch on the head and a few blue feathers near the wings.

Furthermore, this species is native to Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma, and Singapore.

These birds prefer damp lowland forests in the tropics or subtropics.

Garnet Pittas breed between March and August, when up to six eggs are placed in a big spherical nest on a tree or shrub, seldom on the ground.

Unfortunately, the beautiful and cute Garnet Pitta is classified as near endangered by the IUCN because of widespread deforestation and forest fires.
