The black eyes of the golden palm weaver (Ploceus bojeri) stand out against the orange (male) or yellow (female) head.

The adult male has uniform orange on the head, shading to a chestnut patch on the lower throat – the orange face pales onto the ear-coverts and sides of the neck, resembling the male Eastern Golden Weaver.

The Golden Palm Weaver’s plumage does not change seasonally.

Male juveniles have a yellow head, with orange developing on the nape and lower throat.

The Golden Palm Weaver prefers coastal palm savanna as well as riverine habitats.

It also extends into savanna areas below 1200 m and has an annual rainfall of more than 500 mm inland.

The Golden Palm Weaver is colonial and possibly polygynous. It may coexist with Eastern Golden Weavers or Village Weavers P. cucullatus in mixed colonies.

The male performs while suspended below the nest entrance, his wings spread vertically, but the wings rarely move; the head may be bowed slowly.

The nest is spherical and lacks an entrance tube.

The male weaves the outer shell of long grass strips or palm frond strips and constructs the entire inner shell of short grass strips.

Nests made of leaf fragments and fine grass heads were accepted by the female lines.

Nests are typically suspended beneath palm fronds or above water in thorn trees.
